At Bible Baptist Church Burgaw, we stand firmly upon the Word of God as preserved in the King James Bible. Our beliefs are not based on tradition or popular opinion, but on the unchanging truth of Scripture alone.
We are an independent, fundamental Baptist church that holds to the historic Baptist distinctives and the doctrines of grace that have been believed and proclaimed by God's people throughout the centuries.
The Holy Scriptures
We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, infallible, and preserved Word of God. God gave His Word by inspiration to holy men of old who wrote as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. We believe the King James Bible is the preserved Word of God in English and is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice.
— 2 Timothy 3:16-17
The Godhead
We believe in one triune God who exists eternally in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. These three are one God, co-equal and co-eternal, possessing the same nature, attributes, and perfections. Each person of the Godhead executes distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence, and redemption.
— 1 John 5:7
The Lord Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man. He was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, and lived a sinless life. He died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, was buried, rose bodily from the dead on the third day, ascended into heaven, and now sits at the right hand of God the Father as our great High Priest and Advocate. He is coming again personally, visibly, and bodily to judge the world and establish His kingdom.
— John 3:16
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead, co-equal with the Father and the Son. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He regenerates, indwells, seals, and baptizes all believers into the body of Christ at the moment of salvation. He empowers believers for service, sanctifies them, and produces spiritual fruit in their lives.
— John 14:26
Creation
We believe that God created all things in six literal, 24-hour days, and that the creation account in Genesis is literal and historical. Man was created in the image of God, distinct from all other creatures. We reject the theory of evolution and affirm that God's creative work was completed and pronounced "very good" by the Creator Himself.
— Genesis 1:1, 31
The Fall of Man and Sin
We believe that man was created innocent but fell into sin through voluntary transgression. As a result, all mankind inherited a sinful nature and became spiritually dead, separated from God, and justly condemned. All have sinned and fall short of God's glory. Man is utterly unable to save himself or remedy his lost condition through his own efforts.
— Romans 5:12
Salvation by Grace Through Faith
We believe that salvation is the free gift of God, provided through the shed blood and finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. It is received by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, apart from works. When a person repents of their sin and places their faith in Jesus Christ, they are justified, regenerated, adopted into God's family, and sealed by the Holy Spirit forever. Salvation is eternal and can never be lost.
— Ephesians 2:8-9
Eternal Security of the Believer
We believe that all who are truly born again are kept by God's power and are eternally secure in Christ. Salvation is not maintained by human effort but by God's grace and power. True believers may stumble and fall into sin, but they cannot lose their salvation. God disciplines His children, but He never disowns them.
— John 10:28
